Excavation and trenching
Most of our excavation is the front end of a concrete job: footings for an ADU or addition, a pad for a garage or shop, trenches for water, sewer, electrical and drainage. We dig to the engineered depth and width, keep the sides clean, and set the grade so the forms go in right the first time.
Spoils are loaded and hauled the same day, or kept on site for backfill when the plan calls for it. We coordinate the pour so the trench does not sit open longer than it has to.

Compacted base, the right thickness for the load, reinforcement where it belongs, and control joints cut on time. That is what decides whether it looks the same in five years or is already cracked.
We match new work to what is already there when we are only replacing a section, and we clean up before we leave.

Questions we get asked
Do you locate utilities before you dig?
Yes. We call 811 before every excavation and mark the lines on site before the first bucket goes in.
Can you dig in a tight backyard?
Usually. Side-yard access down to about three feet works for most residential footings and trenches. We look at access on the walk-through and tell you what fits.
What happens to the dirt?
It is hauled off the same day unless the plan calls for backfill, in which case we stockpile it on site and put it back once the inspection clears.
Do you pour the footings too?
Yes. Excavation, forms, steel and the pour are the same crew, so nothing waits on a second contractor.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. AMZ Concrete Inc. is a licensed C-8 concrete contractor, CSLB #1127615, bonded and carrying workers’ compensation on every job. Look us up on the state’s website any time. We would rather you check.
